At YanHuang Healthcare, we recognise the important place that massage can have in the maintenance of good health, and the promotion of a feeling of well-being, so we offer several different types of massage therapy, according to the needs of the individual client. We provide the best massage available in southsea.

Deep tissue

Neck and shoulders

Tuina

Relaxing and Swedish Massage

Facial Rejuvenation

Relaxing massage

This very relaxing massage is based upon the so-called Swedish Massage technique, and can be either a full or a part body massage. It is an excellent way of treating body tension and reducing stress. The techniques used are rhythmical, with five basic strokes, in manipulating the soft tissues of the body, particularly the muscles.

The effects of the massage can promote suppleness, and the relief of fatigue in tight, sore muscles. For sufferers of arthritis, it can provide relief for stiff joints. The massage also encourages deeper breathing, which helps with relaxation. This massage can also have a generally invigorating effect on the mind and body, and promote a sense of well-being.

Further benefits of the massage include the breaking down of waste products in the muscles, and improving the cleansing role of the lymphatic system. It also encourages better circulation, resulting in a more efficient delivery of nutrients to cells in the body. If you have never experienced a massage before, this relaxing therapy is a very good place to begin.

Facial Beauty Massage

A Facial Beauty Massage is a safe and enjoyable therapy, and a relatively inexpensive alternative to cosmetic surgery. Although more likely to appeal to women, it is also available to any men interested in a natural means of rejuvenating the face. Best results are obtained from a course of treatments, but a single massage will usually be found to be a very relaxing and pleasurable treatment.

Techniques employed during the treatment are massage and acupressure, combined with face masks and herbal creams. Facial muscles, like any others, can become tense when we are stressed. The treatment stimulates blood and lymph circulation, and the production of collagen, the protein responsible for the skin’s firmness.

The benefits of the treatment may include an improvement in skin condition, reduction of wrinkles, the softening of lines, and a toning and tightening of the skin. The treatment is likely to lift your mood, and leave you relaxed, with a sense of well-being.

Stretching back over 2,500 years, Chinese herbalism is the oldest continually practised medical profession in the world.

Working on the same diagnostic basis as acupuncture, Chinese herbalism works by re-establishing the natural balance and harmony within the body. A herbal prescription will include several herbs working together in combination to treat the person as a whole. It is this individual designing of prescriptions that increases the effectiveness of the treatment.

Chinese herbal medicine is especially effective in the areas of infertility and menstrual irregularities, skin conditions such as eczema and acute illness such as colds and flu. Herbal medicine can be used separately but is often used in conjunction with acupuncture for maximum effectiveness.

Traditionally Chinese herbs were taken as a drink by boiling up dried herbs. In our clinic we are able to provide the same treatment in powder or capsule form. In today busy world, this is more convenient method of taking herbs, requires no preparation time and is just as effective.

We also have a selection of beautiful and tasty herbal teas direct from the orient available in the clinic.

Ear Candeling has been around in most of Asia and ancient Egypt since 3,000 B.C. A special conical ear candle is lit; the unlit end is placed through a hole in a protective plate. The patient lies on their side and a soft cloth placed on their head, there is a hole in the cloth. The plate is lowered onto the cloth and the candle’s pointed end is inserted into the patient’s ear. The candle is hollow and usually made of bees wax. It is blown out when it gets to about two or three inches above the plate.

Contrary to common belief, the ear candle does not suck the wax from your ear. Instead, Ear Candeling works by filling your ear with smoke. The smoke then breaks the seal between any earwax and your ear drum. It also makes the wax softer, and causes it to naturally come out of your ear, either as you sleep, turning from side to side, or when you shower, the water forcing the now loose wax from your ear.

Ear Candeling can be very beneficial to more than just a build up of ear wax. By removing excess wax, you are also allowing for better sinus drainage, this could stop sinus headaches. Tinnitus, or ringing in the ear, can also be alleviated by getting rid of wax. Ear Candeling can also help draw out infectious bacteria that may be in your inner ear. These bacteria may be the cause of ear infections or sore throats. Of course, removing ear wax may help your hearing, and also you sense of balance.

Due to the wonderful pulling power and heat that the cups offer it is dramatic in its reduction of pain and hence our feeling of well being. Stagnation can be a result of injury, stress, a lack of blood, Qi or even an invasion of cold in the body & joints. What ever the cause Cupping can be applied to specific points as used in acupuncture, or with the application of massage oil to the area of dysfunction and after a very short time the patient will start to feel warmth and a reduction of pain.

Its use in beauty therapy is based around promoting hormone production, encouraging blood and body fluid movement in the bowels and internal organs thus removing harmful toxins that speed up the aging process and cause other conditions.

Oriental Medicine teaches us that Kidney weakness speeds up the aging process leading to dry, damaged hair, early greying or loss of hair. This drying out or imbalance in ladies also shows itself in the early signs of the menopause with hot flushes, night sweats and dry skin.

The benefits of Cupping therapy are endless. Due to its stimulating & strengthening effects cupping has been used successfully to treat all of the following:

Bowel conditions (IBS, Constipation & Diarrhoea) Headaches, Back pain, Arthritis, Period pain, Injuries, Asthma, Cellulite, Fatigue (ME), Anaemia, Depression & Emotional problems, Atrophy, Sciatica, Common cold & Flu, Skin problems, Blood pressure, Ladies problems, Weight loss and more.

Cupping is applied to the body by introducing a naked flame to the cup to create a vacuum, which is then applied to the skin and draws a little up to seal itself. The amount of pressure applied varies with the size of the flame. Usually in the West we use much less pressure than the Chinese would.

The therapist can then decide how to use the cups depending on the client and the presenting condition. For example if it is a child with Asthma, we would use flash cupping techniques (which is usually enjoyable) the cups are applied and pulled off in quick succession creating a popping sound not unlike popcorn.

For more chronic cases say of frozen shoulder or joint pain we would use a longer application with a stronger pull.

The ancient healing art of Reflexology has been known to man for many thousands of years. It was first practised by the early Indian, Chinese and Egyptians. It has its basis in the belief that along with nerve endings, there are energy meridians that run through the human body. There are five on the left side of the body, five on the right side of the body, and three that run across the body transversely. Every organ and system in the body has a spot on the hand, foot, or ear that can trigger activity.

When the flow of energy throughout the body becomes blocked, any organ along the blockage ceases to function properly. A blockage also can cause overall stress to the body; by manipulating the corresponding zone on the foot, hand, or ear, Reflexology can release the blockage. This will not only help the affected organs to work again, but will allow the whole body to perform in harmony, resetting homeostasis.

Reflexology can be used to relieve stress and reduce pain. It is can also be an aid to weight loss. It has been used for headaches and digestive issues. Almost any type of ailment can receive some benefit from it. Often, just putting the patient in a more relaxed state helps them to heal better.

This is a great alternative to anyone who is not yet ready to try acupuncture. You will sit in a reclining chair, or perhaps lay on a table. You do not need to undress. The reflexologist will massage, knead, and stretch each foot slowly and methodically. There will be pressure involved, but it will not be painful.

We will note any tender areas; and may spend extra time on them, gently coaxing the blockage away and the energy to flow freely once again. After working on your feet we will move to your hands, again carefully working the entire hand. Your job will be to relax.

After you have been worked on, you will feel a deep sense of relaxation. Some people become overly emotional, having all the stress and tension relieved from their bodies. Do not be surprised if you are tired after a Reflexogy session. While there should be improvement with each visit, and some things, like headaches or pain, might be gone with each session.

At YanHuang Healthcare Portsmouth, we recognise the important place that massage can have in the maintenance of good health, and the promotion of a feeling of well-being. So we offer several different types of massage therapy, according to the needs of the individual client.

Deep tissue

Neck and shoulders

Tuina

Relaxing and Swedish Massage

Facial Rejuvenation

Deep tissue

As its name implies, Deep Tissue Massage involves the massage therapist working on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, and so differs fundamentally from the techniques used in the Swedish-style Relaxing Massage. Deep Tissue Massage is often very effective, although some clients may feel a little soreness for a day or two following the massage.

This type of massage will often concentrate on a specific area of the body, and is particularly suited to the treatment of chronically tense areas of the body, such as stiff necks, lower back pain and sore shoulders. It can also be effective in treating such conditions as fibromyalgia, osteoarthritic pain, repetitive strain injury, postural problems, limited mobility and muscle tension or spasm.

Deep Tissue Massage can be a highly effective treatment, and with this kind of massage particularly, it is important to discuss your condition with the therapist beforehand, so that the appropriate treatment may be administered. It is also important to drink plenty of water after the massage, to flush metabolic waste from the tissues.

Neck & Shoulders

The Head, Neck and Shoulder Massage is suitable for anyone who suffers from pain or tension in the upper body. It may be of particular interest to those who spend a lot of time working at a computer, or those who work in other occupations that involve long periods of time with the upper body in a fixed or unnatural posture, giving rise to tension in the head, neck or shoulders.

This massage may also be beneficial to individuals suffering from headaches, migraines and congested sinuses. It is a soothing, sometimes deep, massage that makes use of acupressure points in the upper body. It is also effective in relieving stress tension in the head neck and shoulders. This is a relaxing therapy that can leave clients re-energised and better able to concentrate.

Tuina

Tuina (pronounced twee-nah) has a 2000 year history in China, and remains a primary, and very popular, form of treatment in China today. It is a holistic, energising treatment that seeks to regain Yin Yang balance in the body, by affecting the flow of qi (life energy) through the meridians (channels) that are fundamental to the whole system of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

This uniquely Chinese form of massage uses three main techniques: tissue release, using deep, rhythmical kneading and friction, pressure techniques which work directly on acupuncture points, and mobilisation which uses stretches and joint movement. It is a deep, stimulating treatment that is very different to the Swedish-style Relaxing Massage common in the West.

Because of its holistic nature, it has been effective in treating a wide range of conditions, included amongst which are many problems of a musculo-skeletal and neurological origin (lower back pain, sciatica, arthritis for example), while clinical trials have also shown it to be effective in treating asthma, high blood pressure, and many abdominal problems.

Acupuncture is the procedure of inserting and manipulating needles into various points on the body to relieve pain or for therapeutic purposes. The philosophy behind the treatment is that energy lines or meridians circulate around the body. These meridians contain our energy flow or “qi”. It is when this qi is impaired through the body that imbalance and illness occurs. With the insertion of fine needles at various points on the meridian, the energy can be moved or redirected to where it is needed most. In this way the body’s balance can be restored and the illness resolved.

In TCM, the body is treated as a whole that is composed of several “systems of function” known as the zang-fu. Most of the main acupuncture points as exist on the twelve main and two of eight extra meridians (also referred to as mai) for a total of fourteen “channels” through which qi and Blood flow. Other points not on the fourteen channels are also needled. Local pain is treated by needling the tender “ashi” points where qi or Blood is believed to have stagnated. The zang-fu of the twelve main channels are Lung, Large Intestine, Stomach, Spleen, Heart, Small Intestine, Bladder, Kidney, Pericardium, Gall Bladder, Liver and the intangible San Jiao.

Acupuncture is a foundational practice healing within Traditional Chinese Medicine along with herbal medicine. To find out more about the conditions that can be treated visit this page which gives a brief overview of the philosophy of TCM.

If you do not feel comfortable with needles other techniques that work on manipulating the same energy pathways are available such as cupping or acupressure.

Acupuncture works well combined with herbal medicine and tui na massage.
